A smartphone-operated lock can be convenient in a capsule home. When selecting one, ask the supplier to explain entry in three separate situations: no internet, no available phone and a depleted lock battery.
Different failures need different answers
Losing remote connectivity does not necessarily remove local access. As a documented example, Nuki describes Bluetooth operation and internet-based remote access; an internet outage prevents remote control while the stated local options may continue working. This describes its system, not every lock supplied with a capsule home.
Check the battery separately
Nuki separately explains that a depleted battery stops its lock receiving app commands. It describes mechanical alternatives and cylinder conditions. Do not assume those apply to an unidentified device: request the brand, model, manual and compatibility information for the door you will receive.
Make handover a demonstration
Our suggestion is to agree with the installer on a supervised demonstration of normal access and documented fallback methods. Keep the door open and avoid locking anyone in or out. The purpose is to learn the manufacturer’s procedure, not improvise a security test or force the mechanism.
Who retains control
Ask who administers permissions, how the account is handed to the buyer and how installer access is removed. For guest use, establish how permissions are created and revoked and which steps need connectivity. Do not publish real codes, permission screenshots or occupant details.
What belongs in the quotation
Specify the exact device, power supply, accessories, fallback method, installation and user explanation. Ask about functions or services with recurring costs without assuming that these exist or are included. An attractive door should also support clear everyday use and documented maintenance.
