“Capsule house”, “tiny house” and “modular home” often appear in the same search, but they answer different questions. A capsule house usually describes a compact form or product concept. A tiny house describes scale and a way of using space. A modular home describes a construction method: sections or units are made away from the final site and assembled there. One home can fit more than one description.
Start with the right question
If the design is curved and panoramic, it may be called a capsule. That name alone tells you little about usable floor area, insulation or whether the unit is suitable as a permanent dwelling. If a home is small, it may be called a tiny house whether it stands on foundations or on a trailer. A modular building may be small or large. The word “modular” does not guarantee a particular price or planning status.
Compare uses, not labels
Decide whether the project is for a full-time home, a holiday stay, a guest room, an office or a hospitality business. Then compare the same information for every proposal: internal floor area, drawings, structural system, wall and roof build-up, insulation, ventilation, heating and cooling, utilities, transport dimensions, installation process and warranty. Ask for the technical documentation that applies to your country and intended use.
Mobility deserves special care. A unit that can be transported is not automatically authorised to remain or be occupied on any plot. Planning rules, access, service connections and the intended use must be checked at the actual site. Where necessary, consult the local planning authority and an independent professional before paying a deposit.
What belongs in a fair comparison?
- Floor plan: compare usable interior space, not only external dimensions.
- Full scope: distinguish the factory unit from delivery, foundations and connections.
- Comfort: request details for the local climate, ventilation and year-round use.
- Evidence: verify claims about certifications, completed projects and after-sales support.
Photographs can help you imagine a design, but they cannot prove its installed cost or legal suitability. We label concept images clearly and treat manufacturer profiles as information, not endorsements.
