Industrialising a home means designing a process that can be repeated, transported and checked. Manufacturers and assemblers should start with interfaces: frame, envelope, windows, services, supports and site connections.
Assign tolerances to each interface
We suggest defining datums, component tolerances, accumulated deviations and assembly acceptance criteria. A seal needs a documented working range; airtightness or watertightness cannot be inferred from one tolerance for the entire home. Drawings and inspection must use the same definitions.
Structural execution classes also cannot replace functional specifications. Before promising precision, establish which dimensions will be measured, with which instrument and when. Transport damage can change a unit accepted at the factory.
Design transport before freezing the model
Spain’s DGT states that exceeding statutory mass or dimension limits may require additional authorisation. Assess the loaded combination, route and competent authority. Home height is not loaded vehicle height: the platform occupies clearance too.
Prepare verifiable assembly
- Checked access and manoeuvring areas.
- A lifting plan with mass, centre of gravity and approved points.
- Prepared and accepted supports and service connections.
- Connection, sealing and testing sequence.
- Handover milestones and incident responsibilities.
A schedule should distinguish delivery, placement and commissioning. Physically positioning a module in one day does not show that it is legally authorised, connected and ready for occupation. This distinction improves commercial and construction planning. Transport references here concern Spain.
