Comparing countries by factory price can hide the client’s actual cost. A B2B quotation should state where manufacturer responsibility ends and what remains before the unit is installed and usable.
Break down delivered cost
Our recommendation separates manufacturing, documents, transport preparation, haulage, authorisations, unloading, foundations, services and commissioning. Taxes, market adaptation and warranties need explicit treatment. If land or design is excluded, competing quotations should use the same scope.
Transport authorisation and product documentation cover different matters. DGT and European Commission sources are starting points for those items; they do not establish a national price per square metre. Quotations need real route, dimensions and obligations.
Margin and markup differ
Teaching example: a cost of €40,200 and selling price of €62,000 leave €21,800. Markup on cost is 21,800/40,200, approximately 54.2%. Margin on sales is 21,800/62,000, approximately 35.2%. These are hypothetical figures, not a verified market quotation.
Calling the difference gross margin requires defining which costs the starting figure includes. It is not net profit: overheads, financing, incidents and other expenses may still need deduction.
Make comparisons reproducible
- Identical model and performance, or declared differences.
- Date, currency, taxes and payment terms.
- Destination and transport and installation responsibilities.
- Contingencies and excluded expenses.
- Separate factory, delivery and commissioning dates.
Manufacturer value is not established by a cheap-country ranking. It is demonstrated by an offer whose documents, costs and conditions support an informed decision. The transport reference here concerns Spain.
